spread the word

a couple months ago i joined an organization called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. i was able to participate for the first time tonight, and i really would like to be involved in making people more aware. i had never heard about it until a client showed me pictures of her stillborn that had been done by one of the organization's photographers, and i knew immediately that it was something i would like to be involved in. its called "rememberance photography." photographers all over the country volunteer their time to families who are in need of their services. i can't say it any more beautifully than the way they do on their website, so if you get a chance, take a look. if you know of anyone who could benefit from these services, you can submit a request on their behalf. some hospitals will let the families know if this option, but if they don't, the parents could miss out on the opportunity to receive beautifully done, artistic memories.

today i did newborn portraits of griffin. he is the youngest of five kids, and they are all very excited to have him! all the kids were very helpful during the shoot - getting blankets, pulling out the binky, or just trying to make griffin happy.

we pulled the binky out of his mouth, and his little lips kept sucking!

i loved this big yawn!

the rest of the kids...

on becoming my mother...

first of all i would like to start by saying - i should not be left alone. my husband was out of town for a couple days so of course, i decided to paint my kids' rooms by myself before he got back. (by the way - i haven't done any decorating other than the painting, so please don't judge me on the naked walls!)

now, if you know my mom, you are laughing right now because this is totally something she would do. my mom is amazing- she does everything from building furniture to mapping out and remodeling entire rooms. i may not be quite as talented as her with the home remodeling, but i figured i could handle painting. i love that when i called her to tell her my plans, she wasn't surprised at all, it was as if it was totally expected of me to try to paint two bedrooms in a couple days on my own. and when i hurt my back pulling that huge toy bookcase because i decided taking the toys out beforehand would take way too much time, she completely understood that as well! i think for both of us, the best part about doing things on our own is because we can do whatever we want and not feel bad about making others help us when WE want them to. my husband might call this impatience, but i prefer to call it initiative ;)

anyway, here are the rooms... tyler's started out with the bottom half blue, and the top cream, and blake's was all cream. i should mention that i painted tyler's room and then painted it again because i didn't like the bottom color! i still want to add a really light blue to the top 8 inches of blake's room, so that's in the plans also.

heather and jeff are getting married in the fall, so they decided to do their engagement portraits before it gets too hot! we had a nice cool breeze, so i'm glad we did it now. heather and jeff are really sweet together, and we got some great engagement photos! they decided to order an engagement guest book, so keep your eye out for a post with the final design closer to the wedding...

i loved this spot! can you tell?

i can't wait for the wedding!

i did portraits of anna on friday. her mom wanted a very casual, natural session, so we just enjoyed the park near their home and let anna crawl around. she just barely started walking, so she took a couple steps for me, but she was a fast crawler!

anna had fun doing itsy bitsy spider with her mom!

and one HUGE kiss for mom!

sshh top secret

i did some group photos of all the lesueur cousins today as a surprise for their grandparents. they are all super cute kids, but getting any group of kids to smile all at once is hard... unless you have aunt jill. now, all the moms were pretty actively trying to get their kids to laugh, but jill took it about 15 steps further! :) i can't even explain what was going on behind me because you just had to be there to see it! thanks for all your help jill!

oh - to any of you who know the lesueurs, please don't say anything to grandma and grandpa! we would hate for word to get back to them before they get the photos!

this is one of my favorites because all the kids are yelling "i love aunt jill!"

feels like home

usually the only shoots i do in the home are newborns or maternity shoots. most of the time people want to go outdoors, or somewhere pretty, but inside can be great too! today i did portraits with liz in their home because they've got some great, bright colors in their bedrooms. i think it gives a more personal, homey touch to the portraits. thanks for being such a great model liz!

this is very possibly my favorite shoot EVER! these are the dana kids, and seriously, could they get any cuter?! seth is almost 5, kate, paige and ellie are 3, and chase is almost 6 months. their mom brought reinforcements just in case, but the kids were very well behaved and were happy to explore while we took pictures. I LOVE the bright colors! i always tell my clients that i like bright, fun colors, but i don't think i could have even picked out such perfect outfits!

seth choreographed this picture - he wanted one of all the girls hugging him.

the girls found lots of fun sticks

thanks for being so fantastic guys! see you in the fall for family portraits!

Cute shelf!

My friend Brooke posted this on her blog, and I loved it so I thought I'd put it up here too. These are all pictures that I've done for her kids, and I LOVE how she arranged them. When I do portrait sessions, my vision is always to have coordinating photos that could all be put up together, and she did a great job with them!

the smith kids

last night i got to hang out with the smith family and do some portraits of their kids. i say hang out because it was such a laid back session, and their mom jinny didn't want any posed shots, so we just played and i followed them around the park!

mercedes and brian

yesterday i shot mercedes and brian's wedding. we did a pre-wedding shoot the night before with just the two of them. they were such a cute couple, and very in love!

click here to see the whole slideshow.

i forgot to add this when i originally posted, but for those of you who live in arizona... do you remember that crazy monsoon-like storm that hit last night? that was during the outdoor reception, so check out the slideshow and you'll see how crazy mercedes' veil was blowing!

thanks for letting me be a part of your day!

kinsley is 1!! (and happy mother's day) ;)

i was so excited to do portraits with the smith family yesterday. i did their christmas photos at the end of the year, and they are such a great family! this was kind of a combination shoot - kinsley just turned one, so there was family around, and kris decided to get everyone together for her mom's mother's day gift.

if anyone saw their portraits at the end of the year, i chased grant around while he chased bunnies around at a scottsdale resort. literally - i chased him around the entire time! now he is in to chasing birds, so he kept running after the geese and ducks.

the birthday girl! this is one of the reasons why i love photographing this family - even as a baby, kinsley will turn and smile AT THE CAMERA. i love it!

i just love little profiles!

after the group shots, we played on the playground.

and climbed trees...

and i caught some sweet moments in between...

thanks guys - it was so good to work with you again!
